期待什么 at Your Appointment

Your Hematology/Oncology appointments are a multi-step process. Please feel free to bring a friend or family member with you to your appointments. You may also want to bring items from home to help you pass the time, such as a book, magazine, or laptop. Here are a few stops you may experience during your visit:

 

  • 第一次来访: Please be prepared to have the following items with you for your first appointment: list of medications, 一种带照片的身份证件, current health insurance card(s), and the completed history form (paper or MyChart). New patients may be in the office a minimum of 1.5 hours, subsequent visit times will vary depeneding on diagnosis and treatment.
  • 实验室服务: Often when you arrive for an appointment, you will first visit phlebotomy, where we will take a blood sample. This sample helps us determine your dose of chemotherapy and any other needed medicines.
  • Exam visit: After your blood sample is taken, you will meet with your health care team. This may include your physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. Your team will review your treatment plan and check your bloodwork before prescribing your medications for the day. The nursing staff will check your height and weight. This is another important step that helps determine the dose of chemotherapy
  • 准备过程中的等待: Chemo is made to order every time you visit. This means it cannot be prepared ahead of time. Our pharmacy and nurses are working together behind the scenes to prepare your medicine. It is prepared in a sterile environment and may need to be thawed or mixed with other medicines.   • Infusion: A member of the nursing staff will help you get settled in an infusion area. To begin the process, you may get premedication or fluids. Please do not bring children under age 16 to your infusion appointment with you.
  • 在输液: When your treatment is done, you may need to stay and be observed for a short time, 确保你感觉还好. Your nurse will meet with you to review potential side effects, tell you what to expect at home, and know what to do if you have a side effect.
  • 回家之前: Make sure you have a list of your future appointments and the doctor's phone number. You may have questions and need to call us. We have nurses who work with your doctor, are knowledgeable about your treatment plan, and can help with your questions.
